Week 3 Assignments

Lectures

You should read through all of the lecture notes for week 3. The schedule for lectures this week is:

Force problems, Momentum Conservation Monday
Derivatives and Chemistry - Week 3 Tuesday
More on Differential Equations Wednesday
Second-Order Diff. Eqn.'s, Chaos(?) Thursday
Chemical Reaction Rates (cont.) Friday

Homework

Your homework assignment, due Friday, 8/19, is exercises 3-1 through 3-14. Late assignments are not accepted! You will find it tough-going to do all the problems alone. Work with your group, attend the evening sessions, and do NOT procrastinate.

Laboratory Exercise

Finished versions of your "Death of Atoms" laboratory should be turned in on Monday in class. You will receive marked up versions of your draft lab writeups on Friday, 8/19.

Your laboratory work for this week will be done in the Engineering School on Thursday morning, 9-12 AM. You must show up at 9:00 AM in Alumni Hall, 1st floor of the Towne Building to meet your TA's and be escorted to the labs. Latecomers may find there is no one to direct them to their labs. Missing the lab would be bad.

Since the lab setups are limited, I will have to ask you to choose which lab you want to do. Each one takes more than an hour, so you will not, in all probability, be able to do more than one. You do not have to stay with your regular group. Your grade for this lab will be shared with whomever you wind up working alongside. Of course, as usual, your grade for the lab goes into the average for your regular group (just like quiz scores do).

We will discuss a write-up of this laboratory either during or after the lab takes place.

The labs offered are:
