A fishing derby was held at Mark Munn's pond in Hatboro for the kids of the 2-228th Aviation Group, which is based at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station. This derby was co-sponsored by our TU Chapter, the 2-228 Family Support Group and by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Pennsylvania Game Commission. A picnic lunch was provided by the 2-228th Family Support Group and the fishing rods, hooks and bait were provided by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. The Trout Unlimited members spent most of the time baiting hooks, unhooking fish and untangling lines. The kids enjoyed the day tremendously as well as their parents and TU members.

A special thanks to Mark Munn for allowing this event to take place on his private pond. There were rainbow and brown trout as well as many resident bass and sunfish that were living in the pond to be caught (plus a turtle or 2). In addition special thanks goes out to Denis Mora and his wife. Denis was instrumental in getting the uniformed PA Fish and Boat Commission and PA Game Commission people and resources to participate in this event. Denis is also a PA Conservation Officer. In addition, Denis' wife, Sharon, is a member of the 2-228th Family Support Group, and she was the laiason person in organizing this event. Denis' and his wife's son is presently serving with the unit in Iraq.

The kids and all the grownups had a great time.

What a great event! I am proud of the great job our chapter did and very proud to be a member. We had at least 18 kids participating. Most had never fished before. Everyone caught fish. The Family Support Group said it was the best outing they ever had.
